The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition
So this is another song of my likings! I really love this guys voice and just the way the song goes. Pretty catchy and a nice song to go take a walk to ya know?
Anyways, I’m not an expert at telling things about songs and such…but I recently heard this song in the movie 500 days of summer with a group of my friends which was quite fun. Very sad movie I thought..
Enjoy lovely followers

well today I get to go to Minneapolis for a concert! A Dream Theater concert!!!! this will be the second time I have gotten to see them! last time was their tour for their album Dark Clouds and Silver Linings. I like that album a lot! This time it is for their latest album “A Dramatic Change of Events”. Ill explain the title of that album in bit.
BUUUT! Dream theater has been one of my favorite bands for a while! my first time I had heard of them was at a prog rock festival 4-5 years ago i believe? the festival is called Nearfest and is preeeetty popular! Three days of music! WOO! except everyone is sitting down and its different than the festivals you are probably thinking of. but anyways! after ever musical act there was a break and then the artists would come out and would sign stuff for people! my dad and I were waiting in line for some autographs when my dad thought he saw someone from dream theater who I didnt know at the time. but then he bought the cd “Systematic Chaos” and we listened to it in the car and I liked it A LOT!!!!
so thats how I heard of them, and then I got more albums and liked them even more, and then finally went to a concert!
Now the dealio with the name of the last album? A Dramatic Turn of Events? That is because Mike Portnoy, one of the best drummers in the world, and arguably THE best in the world, left Dream Theater because he said the band wasnt having as much fun as they use to. he was reminded of the fun they had when he was working with Avenged Sevenfold on their last album and toured with them for a while. and then he was replaced in A7x too… but this whole taking a break and quiting thing came from nowhere! so it was, as you could imagine for the band, a dramatic turn of events.
Mike portnoy is pretty much my idol as I myself am also a drummer. and him not being in Dream Theater makes it not as special? i dont know… he was pretty much carrying the band. he was the one that you could tell was having fun and interacting with the audience…
BUT IM STILL SUPER EXCITED!!!! WOOO!!!!! ill post one of my favorite Dream Theater songs soon although ill call this the description for the song!
Nevermind - Infected Mushroom
this is some trippy stuff! apparently, according to spotify, this is a project put together by an electronic artist and a heavy metal artist. and they got infected mushroom! this is purely electronic trance except heavier! you can definitely pick out the heavy metal influences here as well as the obvious electronic aspects.
I found this band by exploring on spotify somehow. I think I was listening to deadmau5 and on the similar artist this came up. or maybe it was one of the albums in the new album bar thing! But whatever! what maters is that there are many ways to explore spotify!
Enjoy

SORRY I HAVEN’T POSTED LATELY!!!! I was at a music camp this last week! so Ill share a piece we played while I was there.
Epinicion - John Paulson
This form of music is called aleatoric or chance music. It will never be exactly the same whenever you play it.. there is a lot of notes written without note heads meaning the player can choose what notes to play as long as it follows the pattern that the music shows. its a little hard to explain without showing you.
But an Epinicion is a song that the Greeks would sing after a battle while they sorted the wounded from the living. so very emotional stuff. this song was written during the Vietnam war with that specific war in mind (obviously).
The composer, John Paulson, lives in my city! So during the camp, he came into one of our rehursals and listened to us play! It was pretty exciting. I had a solo! (I played Bass clarinet at this camp btw). It was only a one note solo…. and it is pretty cool! its pretty early in the song soon before the weid stuff starts. you can hear a really loud low note and thats all thats playing. I know its weird stuff and im sure lots of you wont like it but its very interesting
ENJOY!

Trojans - Atlas Genius
So this is a song that I found while listening to spotify! since its a free software that allows for listeners to stream music for free, they insert ads in between songs (keep in mind that this is very rare! so if you want to get it GET IT!!!) and this band, Atlas Genius, just released an EP and there was an ad for it! At first I didn’t pay any mind to it at all but when it started playing a sample of the music, I found that I really liked it! This is the song that they used in their ad!
its very much indie music, electronic, upbeat, and has a really nice musicalness! (im not quite sure where I was going with that…) But always give new stuff a try I say! soooo!
enjoy!

Lights - Ellie Goulding BASSNECTAR REMIX
I love Ellie Goulding! I first heard/saw her on SNL and I loved this song a lot! so I decided to look her up on Spotify (super good music streamer if you don’t already have it) and I listened to some more stuff and I loved it! she also has a cover of “your song” which is originally by Elton John. Its pretty electronic and such but I also really like her voice and how she pronounces thing when she sings, I’m not really sure how else to describe it but you’ll hear it!
little fun fact: she is dating the skillex guy! and that makes me super happy seeing as I like both of them a lot!
And bassnectar is a dubstep artist and I like him a lot! I almost went to a concert? show? I don’t know what they call it but i was super excited but then I wasn’t able to go…
but anywho! enjoy and look up the original version and other songs and such!
enjoy!

Today in my english class the teacher who had set up the senior slideshow for the all night grad party decided she’d play it for us to test and see if it worked alright. One of the songs was this song and I hadn’t heard it before so I used Shazam on my phone to find out what it was. While I was watching the slideshow it hit me that I’m not going to see very many of these people again or for a very long time. People are growing up too fast….including myself. Anyways, I really enjoy this song. Please listen!
with love, Quail
